BELGRADE, June 1 (Reuters) - Yugoslav national coach Vujadin Boskov brushed off criticism of his team's recent performances as he unveiled his 22-man squad for the Euro 2000 finals on Thursday.
Foreign-based players made up the bulk of the party and
there are just four from the domestic league, including top
scorer Mateja Kezman of Partizan Belgrade.
Red Star Belgrade defender Ivan Dudic was named in place of
Juventus star Zoran Mirkovic, who picked up a three-game ban in
the qualifiers that would have ruled him out of the group stages
in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Yugoslavia are currently on tour in the Far East and have
been lambasted by the national press following a 2-0 win over
China and two goalless draws against South Korea.
But veteran coach Boskov said he was very optimistic about
his country's chances at Euro 2000.
'Yugoslavia has much better players than all other teams in
the finals,' he said at a news conference in Hong Kong, where
Yugoslavia play their final warm-up match against a local side
on Saturday.
'Our only problem is that they are based in foreign clubs
and only get together at occasions such as this.
'But if we are smart and manage to solve this problem, I am
convinced that we can be European champions,' he added.
