Steffen Iversen is in danger of missing out on Norway's Euro 2000 squad next month after suffering a recurrence of the toe injury that has troubled him since Christmas.
Iversen returned home last week to join a special training camp arranged by national coach Nils Johan Semb for his overseas-based players.
But Iversen broke down in training and is unlikely to to be fit for this weekend's friendly against Slovakia, which is the 23-year-old Tottenham striker's last chance to stake his claim for a place in Norway's squad for the European Championship, which begins on 10 June.
Semb can already choose from Tore Andre Flo, of Chelsea, and Manchester United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as well as the highly-rated John Carew, and he said: 'It's very worrying that Steffen risks missing out on our build-up to the tournament. There always seems to be something wrong with him.'
Iversen said: 'I have been in pain for a few weeks and the last couple of games of the season for Tottenham were a real nightmare.'
