Chovanec keeps cards close to his chest
By Mike With

Jozef Chovanec, coach of the Czech national team, has decided on the 22 men he will be taking to Euro 2000 in June.

Sparta Prague defender Jirí Novotny impressed during the 4-1 defeat of Israel and is likely to replace the injured Jan Suchoparek, who now plays lower league football in Germany with Tennis Borussia Berlin.

With Novotny stepping in to the defence, Chovanec admits he is confident of what the Czech Republic can achieve in Holland and Belgium.

'Overall, I am very satisfied with the team', said Chovanec. 'They showed that they can stick together, and that is very important to me.'

The Czech Republic travel to the Finals as the reigning runners-up after claiming second place at Euro 96.
