Czech Republic 4-1 Israel
PRAGUE, April 26 (Reuters) - Two goals from Pavel Nedved
helped the Czech Republic to an easy 4-1 victory over Israel in
their friendly international on Wednesday.
The Lazio midfielder picked up a pass from Pavel Horvath and
opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a powerful right-foot
shot that went in by the right-hand post from 25 metres out.
The Czechs went up 2-0 in the 37th minute when Jan Koller
collected a pass from Radek Bejbl, bamboozled the opposing
defenders and cracked in a low shot from the edge of the box,
scoring his 13th goal in 13 matches for the national team.
Nedved added his second from an 18-metre free kick after 57
minutes before Israel scored nine minutes from time when Ilan
Bachar found the unmarked Eyal Berkoviz who scored.
Rene Wagner added the fourth Czech goal in the last minute.
The Czechs, runners-up in Euro'96, dominated their last home
match before this year's championships. Israel had several
promising chances but only found the net the once, in the dying
minutes.
Israel's Walid Badir had his side's first attempt 30 minutes
into the match but Pavel Srnicek covered his shot easily.
Tal and Badir then outwitted the Czech defence in the 34th
minute but defender Milan Fukal saved on the line with his
goalkeeper beaten.
Czech coach Jozef Chovanec said the match helped determined
his final squad for Euro 2000, but refused to make any
revelations.
He said he was satisfied with the collective effort of the
team.
'The team showed it can stick together, and that is the most
important to me,' he said.
Israel's manager Richard Moeller-Nielsen of Denmark said he
was not happy with his side's defending or their lack of
accuracy in front of goal.
'It was an absolutely deserved victory, the Czechs
controlled the game and were technically better,' he said
afterwards, 'I am not happy or satisfied with our performance.'
