Veteran Winter is currently enjoying the Indian summer of his career in his second spell with Dutch giants Ajax.
He returned to the Amsterdam side last June after seven seasons in Serie A with Lazio and Inter Milan.
He is used chiefly in centre midfield, but is also a handy right-back and it is his versatility and vast experience which should make him a sensible inclusion for Rijkaard.
Came on against France - a record 82nd cap for Holland in front of his home crowd in Amsterdam. A late substitute in the semi-final, he could not inspire a Dutch breakthrough.
