Giant shot-stopper signed from Vitesse Arnhem for a British record goalkeeper fee of £4million and made a stunning impression as Liverpool's defence became almost watertight. Standing at 6'3", he has won two caps so far and despite picking up a red card in the Merseyside derby after an altercation with Everton's Francis Jeffers, has become a Kop favourite. His kicking ability is extraordinary and many Liverpool fans backed him to score a goal last season but to no avail. Starts as third-choice goalkeeper for the Dutch. Came on as a last minute substitute against Denmark after van de Saar took a knock to his ankle. Got a full game against France. Made a couple of good saves, but was to blame for France's first - failing to reach a corner. Won his fifth cap against Yugoslavia as a substitute.
