More a winger than a striker, Overmars has nevertheless weighed in with a hatful of goals for Arsenal since joining from Ajax in 1997. Has hit 29 goals in the past two seasons and has been a regular in the Dutch squad - injury excepting - since making his debut in 1993. As fast as anyone in the game today, he has been consistently linked with a move to Barcelona and could be on his way from Highbury after the tournament. His pace caused Denmark problems and should probably have opened the scoring but put his shot wide from 10 yards out. Another good game against the French. Had the measure of Desailly and perhaps was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the first half. Started on the right then switched to the left against Yugoslavia and looked comfortable on either side. Scored two of Holland's six, but his best efforts couoldn't engineer a semi-final breakthrough.
