Makaay was a revelation for Deportivo La Coruna in their charge towards the Primera Liga title this season and has come up on the rails to stake a claim for a place in the Dutch squad. All the same, the absence of the potent Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink made his inclusion a little easier. With 21 goals, he finished fourth in the scoring charts and is powerful both on the floor and in the air. Unlikely to break into the starting line-up but will prove a more than handy replacement. Brief appearance against France. Was busy in replacing Kluivert but did not seem to do enough to trouble the Barcelona star. Came on as a sub for four goal hero Kluivert...how do you follow that?
