The Barcelona hitman has yet to fulfil his early promise and needs to enjoy a good tournament to make his critics eat their words. His double strike against Poland in the final warm-up game should set him up for Euro 2000. Still only 23 and with time on his side, Kluivert made his international debut at 18 and scored the winner for Ajax in the 1995 Champions League final. Scored three goals in the World Cup in France but was feuding with Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal for much of this season, and has been excluded from the Barca side on several occasions. One of many Dutchmen at the club who will be following the appointment of a new coach there with interest. Was the catalyst of Holland's 3-0 victory over Denmark after he calmly slotted home the first goal. Opened Holland's account against France with a stunning drive after latching on to a Bergkamp through ball and caused all end of problems for the French defence. Scored four against Yugoslavia to take the top striker spot, but missed Holland's second normal time penalty against Italy during a quieter performance. Scored in the shoot-out, but it was all in vain.
