Juventus' dreadlocked midfield maestro could be the key man in Holland's campaign and he has been labelled 'a key midfielder - among the best in the world' by club coach Carlo Ancelotti. Overcame a glaucoma problem this season but will have been disappointed to lose out on the Scudetto to Lazio this season. He has also recovered quickly from an operation on an ingrowing toenail to be available from the start of the tournament. A hard-working, tough-tackling midfield bulldog who rarely gives the ball away, he also has tremendous shooting ability and like many others in the squad, Davids is a product of the Ajax youth system. Looked impressive in Hollands opening game of Euro 2000 despite a poor overall team performance. Was quiet but efficient against Denmark, had a shot well saved by Schmeichel and set up one of the goals via some dogged tackling. Another imperious performance against France, got involved in a fascinating battle with Vieira and looked to come off the better. Involved in Kluivert's opening goal. A usual pitbull performance, whenever Holland lost the ball Davids won it back against Yugoslavia. Less effective against a smothering Italy in the semi-finals.
