Best known on British shores for his horror tackle on Denis Irwin in a 1997 Champions League match, the Feyenoord dynamo only became part of Rijkaard's plans during the 1999-2000 season. Tough-tackling and an inspiration for fellow players and fans alike the heavy-metal loving Bosvelt has been known to weigh in with the odd goal. A major factor in Feyenoord's Champions' League run which saw them only narrowly, and rather unexpectedly, miss out on the quarter-final stage. A late developer in terms of the top level of Dutch football, he joined Feyenoord in 1997 from FC Twente, having started his career at Go-Ahead Eagles. Had a solid enough game when he came in to the line up against France. Kept his place in the side for the quarter-final after his perfromance against France, looked good. Quieter in the semis, and his shoot-out miss was the one that handed it to Italy.
