Updated Thursday July 13, 2000, 9:59 PM GMT Mehmet Scholl
Joined Bayern from Kaiserslautern eight years ago for £2.1million ($3.3 million) and has since made almost 300 league appearances for Bayern. Can expect to fight out the playmaker role with Sebastian Deisler, but the Bayern midfielder could shine if given sufficient protection by club teammate Jeremies. That certainly happened when Scholl created and scored Germany's equaliser against Romania - the best moment for Germany in the whole game. A scorer of spectacular goals with great natural ability, he is one of the few flair players in the German side. Has the ability to line up anywhere along the midfield but is likely to be used in right midfield by Ribbeck. Left-footed Scholl is back to his best after fighting injuries for the best part of last season. Fast, technically gifted and always probing for an opening in attack, Scholl scored the third goal in Bayern's 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in the German Cup final on May 6. Scored a cracker against Romania but kept quiet against England. Tried to be creative against Portugal but just didn't have the support.
