Made a belated international debut against South Africa at the age of 27 and has blossomed since his move from Schalke to the Olympic Stadium.
Now established as the left-sided centre-back in the German defence, Linke started alongside Lothar Matthaus and Markus Babbel at the back against Romania. However, like Matthaeus, he was taken off as Germany sruggled.
An experienced man-to-man marker who has played in two European finals -- winning the UEFA Cup with Schalke in 1997 and losing the 1999 European Cup with Bayern Munich.
Didn't play well against Portugal. Was responsible for marking Portugal's hatrick hero Sergio Conceico.
