An industrious midfielder who reads the game well, Jeremies is used as a central midfielder for his country but has slotted into Lothar Matthaus' sweeper/libero role at club level. Has scored two own goals for Bundesliga champions Bayern this season, including one in the Champions League semi-final defeat against Real Madrid, but has been otherwise exceptional. A neat passer and hard-tackling to the point of being described as a 'little ratter' by 'Big' Ron Atkinson, he is one of the few East Germans to play for the unified nation. Was banned from a friendly in April after he got himself in trouble for describing the state of the national team as 'miserable' but has since settled his differences with Ribbeck. Broke his collar bone on May 9 in the second leg of the Champions Leasgue semifinal against Real Madrid. One of the better German performers in the opening game against Romania. Another decent performance against England was, rather strangely, rewarded with being substituted.
