Updated Thursday July 13, 2000, 9:59 PM GMT Michael Ballack
Young, ambitious, and keen to make a name for himself, Ballack could be the surprise package in the German side this summer. Has overcome knee ligament trouble to establish himself as a star of Leverkusen's midfield. Can fit in anywhere in midfield but may be best utilised on the flanks where he can be expected to provide plenty of ammunition for Bierhoff and co. According to Bayer Leverkusen coach Christoph Daum he has great potential, but needs to add a touch of steel to his game as Daum feels he is a bit too nonchalant at times. Joined Leverkusen from Kaiserslautern last summer. Came on as a sub for Sebastian Deisler and had a chance to score but blasted wide. Is still finding his feet in international football and looked very ordinary against Portugal.
