Liverpool-bound Babbel (he's moving this summer on a Bosman free) is consistantly in Ribbeck's starting line-up after an impressive season for Bayern. Played at centre-back in Germany's Euro96 victory, but is able to fill at right-back or in right midfield.
Against Romania, he played wide on the right side of defence.
His confidence on the ball is sure to have attracted the attentions of Gerard Houllier and his contribution will be vital to Germany's success this summer.
Babbel, won three Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Cup with Bayern, and was another German international on the receiving end in the 1999 Champions League Final.
Has been strong during Euro 2000.
