Pires joined Arsenal just after Euro 2000 after Real Madrid have reportedly pulled out of bidding for him. Usually operates as a right winger, but can play as a striker and plans to play down the left if he gets his dream move to the Premiership. Delivers the ball with pace and will be looking forward to Euro 2000 after Marseille's torrid season at the bottom of the French league. Played against Holland and faded after an impressive opening. Came on as a sub against Portugal in the semi-final and was impressive, giving France some much-needed width. Repeated that performance in the Final when he won the ball after a momentary lapse in the Italian defence, made room to cross and picked out Trezeguet for the Golden Goal winner. Which should add a few noughts to his eventual transfer fee.
