Updated Thursday July 13, 2000, 9:59 PM GMT David Seaman
Made his England debut in November 1988 against Saudi Arabia but had to compete, mainly with Peter Shilton and Chris Woods, until he became a regular under Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle and now Kevin Keegan. With the self-styled nickname 'Safe Hands', Seaman has been a mainstay at Arsenal for a decade but, with errors finally starting to creep into his game, he now faces challenges from Nigel Martyn and Alex Manninger with club and country. Still England's first-choice keeper though due to experience. Lowest point of career was being lobbed from halfway line by Nayim in the 1995 Cup Winners' Cup final but he achieved national hero status for his penalty saves at Euro '96 against Scotland and Spain. Looked occasionally vulnerable to the crossed ball although making some sharp saves and interventions in the Group A opener against Portugal. Blameless for the three goals conceded. Played a strong game against Germany and dealt well with crosses.
