Probably the most articulate of the often instinctively reticent Manchester United team, Neville is a close friend of David Beckham, for whom he acted as best-man at his wedding and with whom he links up effectively at Old Trafford on the right flank. Having made his England debut in June 1995, he has already won 35 caps, playing in three of the national side's four games at the last World Cup, but - amid injury problems - has started just three matches under Keegan. This season, his form has suffered with United, making crucial errors in a handful of games, especially in Brazil, but he remains the only recognised right-back in the squad. That Neviile's long throw-ins were his notable contribution in England's 3-2 defeat against Portugal shows that he is still not at his best. Struggled to cope with th regular and speedy attacks down his flank. He recovered well against Germany with a strong defensive performance. Was beaten occasionally by the skill of the Romanians and had an average overall game.
