Barry only made his Premiership debut for Aston Villa two years ago after being somewhat controversially plucked from the clutches of Brighton, and he was expecting to travel to Slovakia with the under-21 squad until his late call-up to replace the injured Jason Wilcox. Indeed it is a measure of the depressing scarcity of naturally left-footed players with any real experience in the country that he should now make the full squad as Keegan attempts to keep some measure of balance. When his debut came, in the match against Ukraine, Barry showed strength in defence and confidence and vision in moving forward, offering Keegan options he doesn't otherwise have. He repeated that performance in the otherwise undistinguished win over Malta. However, Barry still has immense potential for the future, is hugely accomplished for his age and has a natural ability that should serve his country well in the future. He is predominantly a centre-back but could fill in at left-back even if a wing-back role may not suit him.
