Van Meir will look to make it third time lucky when Euro2000 kicks off in June.
He was employed as a squad member in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups and will hope to play a more active role this time around.
Never scared to put his foot, or head, into the most dangerous situation, it is his distribution which might be the main reason he has not garnered as many caps as he may have.
The Lierse defender has a happy knack of popping up in the right place at the right time to score goals. Amazingly for a defender, Van Meir was fifth top-scorer in Belgium this season, with 15.
