Had a great performance in the first game of Euro 2000. His strength caused problems to the Swedish defence throughout the game. He possesses little in terms of pace, but his hard-working approach in his usually right-sided position has earned him his spot. Was a member of the Belgian squad which travelled to France98. Scored both goals in Belgium's 2-0 win over Norway at the end of April which doubled his international haul. The rangy Verheyen provides a handy foil on the right of midfield to Bart Goor on the left. While lacking Goor's explosive pace, he is also capable of providing good service for Belgium's gifted strikers and is not afraid of the more physical side of the game.
