SKOPJE, June 2 (Reuters) - Substitute Ruslan Barburos earned Moldova a 2-2 draw in Macedonia with a goal 18 minutes from time in their World Cup European Group Four qualifier on Saturday.
Serghei Pogreban had earlier taken advantage of a defensive error by Macedonia to give Moldova the lead after 10 minutes. The home side equalised with a penalty from midfielder Artim Sakiri 10 minutes later after he was brought down in the area by keeper Denis Romanenco.
Macedonia pushed forward more in the second half as they pressured the Moldova defence in search of another goal. A Mile Krstev free-kick in the 65th minute put Macedonia in front until Barburos levelled the score seven minutes later.
Macedonia coach Gjore Jovanovski, in charge of his first match since taking over the team two weeks ago, said the two goals were a result of poor defending.
'Both goals resulted from defensive errors. The team was under great pressure and at the end of the match some players lost concentration,' he said. But he stressed that he was satisfied with his team's performance even though they did not win.
Moldova coach Alexandr Matiura was disappointed his side did not capitalise on their chances to win the match.
Macedonia are fourth in Group Four with five points from six matches with Moldova two points behind in fifth. Both sides are virtually out of the running for a place in next year's World Cup finals adrift of group leaders Turkey and Sweden who have 14 points from six matches.
