Celtic legend Paul McStay is in line for an emotional return to Parkhead after emerging as the frontrunner in a four-man shortlist for a key youth development post at the club.
McStay is preparing to end his five-year hiatus from the game in the event of being offered the chance to join older brother Willie as a Parkhead youth coach.
The departures of coaches Chris McCart and George Adams to Motherwell have created a vacancy for an Under-16s coach under the stewardship of head youth coach Tommy Burns.
It is understood that McStay is in direct competition for the job with part-time Celtic scout Jim McInally, former Motherwell No.2 John Philliben and Joe McBride, son of the Lisbon Lions legend.
McStay has stayed away from football since retiring with an ankle injury, but has completed his UEFA coaching badges at Largs.
Celtic's most-capped player admitted last night: 'I'm looking to get back into football and feel I have enough experience to help young players develop their game.'
