Rock-bottom Elgin suffered another defeat as Dumbarton ran out 2-0 winners.
The Sons - beaten only once in the past six games - had already seen Martin O'Neill hit the woodwork before Andy Brown headed home from a Craig Lynes effort.
Elgin fought back, but their lack of finishing power kept them off the scoresheet and before the break Jordan MacDonald was replaced by Ryan Green.
Dumbarton twice missed chances to go further ahead when Lynes and O'Neill both shot wide and Elgin's best chance saw Michael Morrison, who was later booked for kicking the ball away, fire just wide with a good free-kick.
Dumbarton increased their lead with a penalty on the hour when Martin McMullan pulled down O'Neill inside the box and the midfielder scored from the spot.
Home defenders Dave Stewart and Jamie Bruce then ensured a clean sheet by blocking shots from Ryan Green and Colin Milne.
