Dumbarton made heavy work of killing off East Fife in a 1-0 win after hitting the front early and dominating the first half.
They opened the scoring after just four minutes when Davie Stewart's pinpoint cross was calmly volleyed in by Craig Lynes.
The Sons should have been out of sight by half-time but Andy Stewart stood up well to Joe Robertson's drive and Martin O'Neill shot wide when he should have scored.
East Fife came closest after 23 minutes when Kevin Magee thundered in a close-range shot but John Hillcoat produced a wonderful save.
