Dumbarton picked up three valuable points with a deserved 2-1 victory at Montrose.
Paddy Flannery had the best shot of the half saved by keeper Gary McGlynn in a dull first period.
But it was Dumbarton who opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when Flannery headed home a Martin O'Neil corner.
Dumbarton stretched their lead after 67 minutes when Stephen Bonar shot high into the net from a Craig Brittain cross.
Montrose got a goal back six minutes from time when Andy Hutcheon netted from close range after a Ross McWilliam cross deflected off a defender.
