Montrose climbed above Elgin and off the bottom of Division Three with a deserved 2-1 victory at Links Park.
Montrose got off to a great start with a goal after 11 minutes when Craig Tulley headed a long ball from Mark Craib past his own goalkeeper.
The home side made it 2-0 six minutes later when a long kick from goalkeeper Gary McGlynn fell for Paul McIlravey to chip over the keeper.
Montrose pressed for a third goal but failed to get it and Elgin were unlucky not to pull a goal back after 71 minutes when a drive from Colin Milne smashed against the crossbar.
Milne got a consolation for Elgin a minute from time when he headed home a Connor Campbell cross, but it was too late as Montrose took the points.
