Ayr failed to gain top spot in the First Division after they were held to a 2-2 draw in a bad tempered match at Broadwood.
After a slow start Clyde went in front when Andy Kane volleyed a brilliant goal after 25 minutes.
The visitors got back on level terms seven minutes before half-time when Gary Teale's corner was met at the far post by former Clyde player Eddie Annand who headed into the net.
Three minutes later the Ayr fans went wild when Teale picked up a defensive clearance at the edge of the area and drilled a shot home off the inside of the post.
Clyde were the more dangerous side in the second half and had a number of near misses, in particular when James Hendry saw his effort booted off the line by Mark Campbell.
The home side weren't to be denied and got their second goal when former Ayr skipper Andy Millen turned in the box and shot high into the net.
