Ten-man Cowdenbeath were put to the sword by a determined Dumbarton side as they fell to a 3-0 defeat. Beath were not helped by the sending-off of Antony Smith on 35 minutes after he retaliated following a clash with Pat Flannery.
It was Dumbarton who always looked the more likely to score and they came close after 13 minutes when a David Stewart free-kick beat goalkeeper John Martin only for the ball to crash off the post - Martin O'Neil's rebound flying over the bar.
The home side did take the lead after 31 minutes when John Dillon blasted the ball home after good work by Flannery and Andy Brown.
And the visitors suffered further four minutes later when Smith saw red.
Dumbarton stretched their lead nine minutes after the restart when Dillon's trickery created an opening in the visitors' defence.
His clever cross found Brown who headed the ball into the net.
The visitors were handed a lesson in clinical finishing with Dumbarton's third goal when Flannery picked up a loose ball 20 yards out and slammed it home, leaving Martin no chance.
