Super sub Gareth Evans saved a point for battling Alloa with a dramatic late equaliser against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Inverness were left stunned when the former Hibs striker grabbed his last-gasp goal after dominating the game.

Caley fully merited their first-half lead when Davide Xausa pounced on a loose ball to fire the visitors ahead after 25 minutes.

But after a spirited showing in the second-half Alloa grabbed a deserved draw with Evans' late equaliser.

Caley were determined to collect another three points and were encouraged by their fight back to force a draw last week against Ross County.

Within minutes of the start the visitors were searching for the opening goal but Xausa missed a good chance heading a lovely Dennis Wyness cross over the bar from five yards.

Alloa were forced deep into defence and fortunately for them a rocket from Charlie Christie was saved by the alert Mark Cairns.

Then from a corner kick Bobby Mann's header was cleared off the line by the well-placed Chris Wood.

Strong midfield play from the visitors worried Alloa and when Wyness found a great opening his effort came to nothing with a poor finish.

But the opener was inevitable and arrived in 25 minutes. Paul Sheerin's cross took a deflection and Xausa was on the spot to drive low into the corner.

Minutes later David Bagan and Wyness combined but the Wasps scrambled the ball clear.

Just before the interval Alloa broke from the defence but neither Wood or Hamish French could find the break through.

Alloa boss Terry Christie brought on his son Max and Willie Irvine at the interval for Colin Nish and Grant Johnston in an effort to turn the game around.

The experienced Irvine showed his ability within five minutes when he controlled a pass from Ian Murray to bring out a great save from Caley keeper Les Fridge who turned the ball around for a corner.

But Calley were soon in the driving seat once more as David Biggin's shot was turned for another corner.

When Roy McBain crunched a tackle on Christie in 55 minutes the Calley man was rightly booked.

Inverness pushed hard for a second goal and from a corner, Mike Teasdale's header was cleared off the line by Clark.

Caley stepped up a gear with Sheerin racing strongly on the left and driving a low shot into the side netting.

But with five minutes left Alloa grabbed the goal their good play deserved when Evans forced in Alloa's equaliser from Clark's pass.
