A dour struggle at Recreation Park finished in a goalless draw with both Alloa and Ross County guilty of poor finishing.
The home side had the better chances, with a Colin Nish strike chalked off for offside.
Iain Little was also guilty of missing a penalty, striking the bar after County keeper Nicky Walker bought down Nish.
Late in the match they came close again, when a Willie Irvine rocket struck the post.
County, who included three new signings in the starting line up, also came close on various occasions and were very unlucky in the latter stages when Nish cleared a strong header from Brian Irvine off the line.
