Queen of the South snatched a dramatic last-minute victory after a hard-fought battle at Station Park.
With time running out, substitute Brian Calwell, who looked suspiciously offside, calmly curled a shot past Stuart Garden in the Forfar goal.
It was rough justice on Forfar who had battled well and could have taken three points themselves.
The visitors made some good early chances although if was Forfar who dominated possession, and the home side almost took the lead when Mark McGraw fired in a good header from a Barry Sellars' cross - but keeper David Mathieson was equal to it.
Queen of the South survived loud appeals for a penalty in the 31st minute when David McQuilter appeared to handle in the box but the referee was quick to dismiss the calls.
Forfar went close in the 69th minute when a 20-yard free-kick from Cargill curled over the wall but Mathieson tipped it over the bar.
However, with time running out Caldwell struck the decisive blow to sink Forfar and give the visitors the points.
