Ross County striker Alex Bone earned his rock-bottom side a welcome three points with an opportunistic strike to seal a 1-0 win at Morton.
With just 14 minutes gone Bone chased what seemed to be a lost cause, but when defender Derek Anderson was short with his pass back he nipped in to lift the ball into the net.
With 32 minutes gone Bone came close to adding a second but Morton were saved by the heroics of keeper Mark Boswell as he touched the striker's thunderous effort over the bar.
After the interval Morton turned up the pressure but the Ross County defence stood firm with centreback Ian Maxwell outstanding. Seven minutes from time Ross Matheson came close to the equaliser with a fierce drive that was a yard wide.
