Two-goal Pat McGinlay swept Ayr to a 3-1 victory after Airdrie had snatched a half time lead through Argentinian striker Martin Prest. Glynn Hurst launched Ayr's fight-back on 56 minutes with a header after John Bradford had nodded back a Gary Teale cross.

Ex-Hibs player McGinlay fired Ayr ahead on 73 minutes with a clever shot after Hurst had chested down a Michael Renwick cross. McGinlay wrapped it up on 81 minutes when he rose to head home a cross from substitute Mickey Reynolds.
