Botafogo coach returns to the helm

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Abel Braga has returned to take charge of Rio de Janeiro club Botafogo only 46 days after resigning in the latest move of Brazil's so-called 'Dance of the Coaches.'

Braga left the club after poor performances in the first half of the year but was recalled after his replacement Arthur Bernardes threw in the towel on Thursday.

Bernardes, whose team have failed to win any of their first four games in the Brazilian championship, said he was under unfair pressure from one of the club's directors.

It was the third coaching change in the club in less than one year.

Botafogo became the second club to change coaches since the start of the competition a fortnight ago.

Palmeiras were the first when former Brazil coach Vanderley Luxemburgo walked out to join Cruzeiro, sparking a debate about ethics in Brazilian football.

Luxemburgo was replaced by Flavio Murtosa, assistant to Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari at the World Cup.

Botafogo's last game was a 2-2 draw at home to Internacional, who have announced they have sacked former Brazil defender Junior Baiano for indiscipline.

Internacional vice president Persio Franca said the controversial player, who was also kicked out of German club Werder Bremen earlier in his career, had gone absent without leave.

'We have invested heavily in this player,' he said. 'We have been patient with him .... but we are not going to tolerate any more indiscipline.'

Sao Paulo defender Horacio Ameli is also in hot water after being sent off twice in three games since joining the club.

The Argentine saw red again as his team lost their 100 percent record in a 1-0 home defeat by Juventude on Wednesday.

'I was the last man and the foul was inevitable because otherwise, Juventude could have scored,' he said. 'I'm not the sort of player who always gets sent off.'
