NEW YORK, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Miami Fusion midfielder Alex Pineda Chacon, the top-scorer in Major League Soccer (MLS), was named the league's Most Valuable Player for the 2001 season on Friday.

The 31-year-old scored 19 goals during the season and
finished with a five-game goal-scoring streak.
The Honduran native, the first Fusion player to capture the
MVP award, also led the league with seven game-winning goals in
his first MLS season.
The MVP was decided in voting by coaches, general managers,
players and members of the Professional Soccer Reporter's
Association.
Pineda Chacon received 44 percent of the votes in balloting
to beat out teammate Diego Serna, who received 19 percent. Jeff
Agoos of the San Jose Earthquakes finished third at 18 percent.
