MEXICO CITY, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Former Mexican international Hugo Sanchez was named coach of Mexico City soccer club UNAM on Wednesday, a little over a year after he was sacked from the same post.
A statement from the club said that Sanchez was picked
after a review of potential candidates and vote by a majority
of the club's advisors.
Sanchez became UNAM coach -- his first coaching job -- in
March 2000, but was sacked in August 2000 after the team made a
bad start in Mexico's winter championship.
Since Sanchez last coached the team, however, its
management has changed hands.
During his career Sanchez, 43, played for Real Madrid and
for Mexico in the 1986 World Cup.
Sanchez is on vacation in Spain and expected to return to
Mexico on Thursday.
