JOHANNESBURG, June 6 (Reuters) - Nigeria's Katsina United were expelled from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup on Wednesday because they could not afford the air fare and visas for their second round away tie in Cape Town.
Ajax Cape Town will now progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, the CAF said.
Katsina did not turn up to the second leg match in Cape Town on May 27 after the two teams drew 2-2 in the first leg in Kaduna earlier in May.
The CAF said it would also examine Ajax's claim for compensation for lost gate revenue and television rights against Katsina at their club competitions committee meeting in Cairo next week.
Katsina now also face a three-year ban from African club competition plus a mandatory £1,000 fine.
