TOKYO, June 6 (Reuters) - Struggling Japanese club Kyoto Purple Sanga have fired former national team coach Shu Kamo as manager.
Kamo, 60, took over last June and kept the club in the first
division. But this season they finished bottom of the 16-team
table in the first stage, collecting only seven points from
their 15 games, three adrift of 15th-placed Kawasaki Frontale.
The second stage kicks off on June 24.
Kamo managed Japan's national team from 1994 to 1997 before
being dismissed during the qualifying campaign for the 1998
World Cup.
Kyoto say German Gert Engels, 43, previously with Yokohama
Flugels and JEF United Ichihara, is taking over.
