Torn thigh rules out Valencia's Aimar

VALENCIA, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar will be out of action for at least three weeks after club doctors confirmed on Monday that he had torn a thigh muscle during his side's weekend league defeat at Osasuna.

'Pablo has a small tear in his muscle and will need three to four weeks to recover,' Jorge Candel, Valencia's medical chief told the club's website.

The 23-year-old Argentine playmaker, who has withdrawn from his country's friendly against Japan this week, will miss Valencia's opening Champions League second phase match against Ajax and is unlikely to recover in time to play the following game at Arsenal.

Valencia will also be without midfielder Francisco Rufete who also faces a similar period on the sidelines after injuring a calf muscle in the 1-0 defeat at Osasuna.

The good news for Valencia coach Rafael Benitez is that Norwegian striker John Carew may be available for next weekend's league match at home to Valladolid despite a minor ankle strain.
