BUCHAREST, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Romanian defender Gheorghe
Popescu said on Monday he was leaving Dinamo Bucharest after
being abused by the club's supporters during a match last
weekend.
Dinamo fans, who considered Popescu responsible for their
team's 2-0 defeat by Otelul Galati, shouted 'Popescu go away'
during the second half of the match, played in the Danube town
of Galati.
'I met Dinamo board members this morning and I broke my deal
with Dinamo,' the 35-year-old said, without further explaining
his unexpected decision.
On Saturday, Popescu, who signed a one-year contract with
Dinamo in July, returned to action without being fully fit after
an injury had sidelined him for three weeks.
The defeat left current champions Dinamo in fourth place in
the championship, ten behind bitter rivals Rapid.
Popescu returned to his home country from Italian Serie A
club Lecce. He previously played for PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham
Hotspur, Barcelona and Galatasaray.
