MONACO, Nov 14 (Reuters) - A last gasp header from defender Gael Givet earned Monaco their first win in six games when they beat AC Ajaccio 3-2 in a French first division clash on Thursday.
Playing on a rain-soaked pitch, Monaco twice squandered a
one-goal lead and looked destined for a fifth draw out of six
matches.
But Givet reprieved his team mates seconds before injury
time when he nodded home from a cross by Mexican defender Rafael
Marquez.
The decisive pass allowed Marquez to make amends after
scoring Ajaccio's first equaliser when he beat his own
goalkeeper Flavio Roma in the 79th minute before he was
responsible for a penalty awarded to Ajaccio three minutes from
the final whistle.
Congo's Shabani Nonda had given Monaco a deserved lead when
he deflected the ball off a Corsican defender to open the
scoring in the 63rd minute, bringing his goal tally this season
to eight.
Souleymane Camara then put Monaco in front with another
header in the 84th minute before the Corsicans levelled three
minutes later from a penalty taken by Bruno Rodriguez for
Marquez' foul.
The first division fixtures take place on Saturday and
Sunday.
