SAN JOSE (Reuters) - Carlos Tenorio has struck seven minutes from the end to give Ecuador a 1-1 draw away to Costa Rica as both teams played their first international since the World Cup.
Tenorio's goal came four minutes after 41-year-old defender Luis Capurro had come on as a substitute for Ecuador to
earn his 98th international cap.
The Ecuadorean Football Federation (FEF) have promised to allow Capurro, who made his international debut against
the former East Germany in 1985, to reach the 100 mark.
The home team, inspired by Greek-based midfielder Walter Centeno, had the better of the first half and William Sunsing
hit the post following from one of several chances set up by the AEK Athens player.
Italian-based striker Winston Parks also missed an excellent chance when he eluded two defenders but failed to get his
shot in.
The Ticos, who have appointed former United States coach Steve Sampson to replace Alexandre Guimaraes but played
the game under interim Rodrigo Kenton, deservedly went ahead seven minutes into the second half through Steven Bryce.
The midfielder scored with a rasping left-foot half volley.
Ecuador, who decided not to pick any of their foreign-based players, equalised when Tenorio scored from a narrow angle.
