STRASBOURG, France (Reuters) - French first division club Racing Strasbourg have sacked Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose-Luis
Chilavert in a row over an alleged contract forgery.
'Jose-Luis Chilavert was sacked today by Racing Club Strasbourg. His dismissal letter was sent today by the club,' Strasbourg said on
their website.
Club president Patrick Proisy said he had filed a complaint alleging forgery to a Strasbourg court over a contract produced by Chilavert
which Proisy claims is false.
But Chilavert blasted: 'The information which has been published is totally wrong.
'He (Patrick Proisy)... will have to speak in court because his arguments are unfounded. The papers are all in the hands of my lawyers and I'm relaxed,
enjoying a bit of a holiday.'
The goalkeeper has refused to play since the start of the season, saying the document stated he should have received $4.4million on his transfer from Argentine club Velez Sarsfield.
Strasbourg have been fined $15,000 by the French Professional League (LFP) for failing to produce the document when registering the
move.
But Proisy hit out at LFP officials, saying the fine seemed to imply he was a liar.
'Despite our claims that this document is a forgery, you thought it fit to inflict a $15,000 fine on our club,' Proisy wrote in a letter to the LFP
published on the club's website.
'I want you to know that I'm stunned by the methods you have used, which tend to imply and to make the press and public believe, because
of that fine, that I am a liar and that I effectively signed that document,' he added.
Chilavert and his lawyer were not immediately available for comment.
The Paraguayan has insisted the contract bears the president's name but Proisy has said it is not his signature and he has not even seen
the document.
Chilavert, 37, captained Paraguay in their World Cup campaign in South Korea and Japan.
