SOFIA, May 18 (Reuters) - Former Bulgaria coach Stoicho Mladenov will replace Luigi Simoni in charge of CSKA Sofia, the club said on Saturday.
The 62-year-old Simoni, who won the UEFA Cup with Inter
Milan in 1998, agreed on Friday to leave the club after the
Bulgarian championship ends on May 31.
CSKA have suffered a disappointing season and the 3-1 loss
to arch-rivals Levski Sofia in the Bulgarian Cup final on
Wednesday appears to have hastened the decision.
Mladenov was sacked as national coach in October after a 6-0
defeat to the Czech Republic ended their hopes of qualifying for
the World Cup finals.
CSKA, who have won 28 league titles and 18 Cups, have only
won nine of their 21 games under Simoni and are now 18 points
behind champions Levski after Saturday's games.
Apart from Inter Milan, Simoni has coached Lazio, Napoli,
Piacenza and Brescia in Italy's Serie A.
He is the second Italian to coach CSKA after Enrico Katuzzi,
who was with the club last season.
