BERLIN (Reuters) - Borussia Moenchengladbach won the battle of the German Bundesliga basement when they thrashed fellow relegation battlers Cologne 4-0 on Tuesday.
Dutch striker Arie van Lent scored a hat-trick in Moenchengladbach's biggest league win since October 1997 to bring his tally this
season to nine goals.
The main contenders for the German first division title, including Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and
Kaiserslautern, are due to play on Wednesday.
TSV 1860 Munich did well to beat Werder Bremen 3-1, while VfB Stuttgart were beaten 3-2 at home by Nuremberg, former club
of Stuttgart coach Felix Magath.
Energie Cottbus beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 with a strike by Marko Topic in the 85th minute, that game starting late because of
rowdiness among the visiting Hertha fans.
SC Freiburg held VfL Wolfsburg to a 0-0 draw.
