Lyngby Laudrup plea rejected

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Bankrupt FC Lyngby's hopes of getting former Denmark international Michael Laudrup to play in their next league match have been dashed.

'A narrow majority on the board rejected FC Lyngby's request for dispensation to allow three former players to participate in their Sunday away match against AGF Aarhus,' the Danish Football Association (DBU) said in a statement.

FC Lyngby coach Hasse Kuhn had asked for permission to allow three old boys, including Michael Laudrup, to play against AGF Aarhus.

Laudrup, formerly with Ajax Amsterdam, was not formally approached by the club.

Two other FC Lyngby old boys, Henrik Larsen and Flemming Christensen, both said they were prepared to play for the club in Sunday's match if the DBU gave them the go-ahead.

Larsen was leading goalscorer in the 1992 European Championships, which Denmark won.

FC Lyngby, currently 10th in the 12-team superleague, have now become an amateur club after members voted last week in favour of bankruptcy rather than a merger with first division side FC Farum, who are also based in north Copenhagen.
