AEK Athens 3-2 Liteks Lovetch
ATHENS, Nov 22 (Reuters) - AEK Athens romped to a 3-0 lead in the first 24 minutes but ended up with a narrow 3-2 win over Litex Lovech in their UEFA Cup third-round first-leg match on Thursday.Four goals came in a frantic opening half hour as the hosts
overwhelmed their Bulgarian opponents.
Vassilis Tsartas first rattled the woodwork and then
converted an 11th-minute penalty and Thodoris Zagorakis quickly
doubled the lead with a close range shot.
Sotiris Konstantinidis added a third for the rampant hosts
after 24 minutes from a Milen Petkov corner.
Litex struck back on the half hour through Zoran Jokanovic
as they sought to stem the tide.
After the break the hosts became steadily more nervous and
the Litex defence managed to contain the previously lethal AEK
attack.
Valerio Rachita then ensured a nervous trip to Bulgaria for
the Greeks as he struck in the 76th minute to narrow the deficit
to a single goal.
