BUCHAREST, August 19 (Reuters) - Former Romanian
international Ilie Dumitrescu was fired on Sunday as coach of
local first division club Brasov after just three matches of the
season.
'I was fired as Brasov coach, because I was contrary to
club's owner plans to impose some players in the team and a
personal strategy to play,' Dumitrescu told local private TV
station Antena 1.
'This was totally against my ideas about
coaching.'
Brasov beat Mika Ashtarak of Armenia in the UEFA Cup first
preliminary round first leg earlier this month, but lost 3-0 at
Astra Ploiesti over the weekend. Brasov have four points from
three league matches this season.
Dumitrescu, 31, a key member of the Romania squad that
reached the 1994 World Cup quarter-finals, played 62 times for
his country, scoring 20 goals.
He also played for clubs including Romania's Steaua
Bucharest, England's Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United,
Sevilla of Spain and Atlante of Mexico.
